Color on all Jones boards is achieved by adding pigment to the resin in the lamination stage of your board. This means that a colored resin is being applied to (often) several layers of fiberglass. This is regularly referred to as resin tinting. The combination of the fiberglass and cured resin makes for a sturdy composite surface.

Resin tinting is difficult for several reasons. The hue of the resin while in the mixing bucket (prior to pouring) often appears different from the hue of the resin when it is squeegeed and spread out over a larger surface. Therefore, judging the hue of the resin prior to application is tough. Testing on foam and fiberglass offcuts is often required when mixing the color. Furthermore, multiple layers of fiberglass add depth and therewith make transluscent, pigmented resin appear darker. Finally, artists and individuals all perceive color differently. This makes it near impossible to guarantee an exact color match.

However, the laminators I work with in California are very talented. They have decades of experience mixing resin colors. The result of their collective work is globally renowned and speaks for itself.

To make things a little simpler, I have prepared a preselected list of "Jones Shapes Colors" for you to choose from (see below). Of course, I am happy to discuss other color possibilities and/or look over color books with you. Custom mixing comes at an extra (albeit nominal) fee.
